What’s Holding You Back from Your Purpose? Overcoming Fear, Doubt & Finding God’s Direction with 1 Step

You Know What’s Stopping You

You know what’s stopping you from reaching your goals. You know what you need to do—but somehow, you’re still holding yourself back. What’s holding you back?

Most times, when I find myself stuck or struggling, it’s not because I don’t know what to do. It’s because I’m resisting the very thing I know will move me forward. The truth is, taking the first step is always the hardest, and oftentimes, we are the ones standing in our way.

We are far more powerful than we realize. Deep down, you know that too. But stepping into your power takes courage, vulnerability, and faith. When you begin the journey toward your purpose—toward the life God created you to live—there will be forces that rise up to discourage you. These are the distractions, fears, and lies that try to shake you before you gain momentum.

You’re going to have to learn to break those connections, those limiting beliefs, those patterns that keep you small. You have to keep pressing on, even when it’s hard, even when you feel uncertain. Because on the other side of resistance is reward—a reward more beautiful, more abundant, and more fulfilling than anything you could have imagined.

Your Purpose Is Bigger Than You

God gives each of us a divine purpose—a calling that will impact the world in a powerful, positive way. He didn’t place you here by accident. You were born for such a time as this.

You are meant to be a light. But being a light doesn’t mean you have to be cheerful and perfect all the time. It means you shine even in your struggles. It means you face adversity with grace, show courage in the face of fear, and demonstrate resilience when life feels heavy. It means you choose to walk in faith, not fear, and to guide others by example—not perfection.

We lead others to Christ not just by our words, but by our lives. We lead by:

  • Uplifting others when they feel unseen
  • Sharing our testimonies when we feel called
  • Acting with grace under pressure
  • Showing how to build a relationship with the Lord
  • Staying rooted in our faith—even when the storms come

Growth Comes Through the Struggle

Through my own journey, I’ve faced countless challenges—limiting beliefs, harsh judgments, personal losses, and spiritual attacks. But each time I pushed through those moments, I gained wisdom, strength, and a deeper connection with God.

Every obstacle is a lesson. Every test is an invitation to grow. And every closed door is a setup for something greater.

God uses what you’re going through to prepare you for what’s next. He is shaping your character, building your endurance, and drawing you closer to Him. When you’re ready—when your heart is in alignment—He’ll open the next door. And this time, you’ll be ready to walk through it.

What Area Are You Struggling With?

Before you can overcome what’s holding you back, you have to be honest about what it is. What area of your life are you struggling with right now?

  • Is it time management?
  • Fear of success?
  • Letting go of the familiar?
  • Decision fatigue?
  • People pleasing?
  • Self-doubt or insecurity?

We all have our unique challenges, but the difference between those who stay stagnant and those who grow is perspective.

You can choose to ignore your calling and stay stuck in the struggle. Or you can choose to lean in, embrace the challenge, and allow God to grow you through it.

My Struggle: Decision Fatigue

One of my personal struggles has been decision fatigue. There are so many opportunities in my life, so many ideas I want to pursue, and so many directions I could go. It feels like there’s never enough time to give everything 100% effort. Can you relate?

What has helped me overcome this is prayer. I ask God, “What seed should I sow today?” Throughout the day, I keep the question in my heart, and He gives me peace about where my focus should be. That still, small voice confirms when I’m moving in the right direction—and gently redirects me when I’m not.

When we try to do everything on our own, we run in circles. But when we surrender and let God lead, everything becomes clearer.

A Common Solution: The Word

Whatever your struggle is—there is one consistent solution. It’s simple, but powerful:

Open your Bible. Read His Word. Let it speak to you.

God’s Word has the power to shift your mindset, restore your hope, and give you the direction you’ve been praying for. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need to make the choice to turn to Him. Over and over again.

Some days, it will feel easy. Other days, you’ll have to recommit every hour. That’s okay. Walking with God is a journey, not a destination. Each time you choose Him, it becomes easier to stay on the right path.

What Has He Been Leading You to Do?

Ask yourself: What has God been leading me to do, but I’ve been afraid to take the first step?

It might be launching that business, going back to school, leaving a toxic relationship, starting a ministry, or simply committing more time to prayer and personal growth.

Now ask yourself: What lies has the enemy been whispering to hold me back?

Because here’s the truth:

God’s Voice vs. The Enemy’s Voice

God’s voice will sound like:

  • Peace
  • Encouragement
  • Clarity
  • Conviction
  • Compassion
  • Love

The enemy’s voice will sound like:

  • Confusion
  • Guilt
  • Fear
  • Shame
  • Pressure
  • Doubt

When you hear a voice that pushes you into panic, fear, or shame—that’s not God. He may challenge you, but He will always guide you with love.

If you feel stuck or unsure, pause and pray:
“Lord, help me hear Your voice louder than any other voice.”

You Were Meant to Rise

No matter what you’re going through right now, know this: You were meant to rise. You were created on purpose, for a purpose. And the very thing you’re struggling with might be the thing God uses to bless others through you.

Let this be your moment to stop holding yourself back.

Let this be the season you rise, even in the face of fear.
The season you step forward, even if it’s messy.
The season you stop doubting and start declaring God’s promises over your life.

So now I ask you…

✨ What is He calling you to do that you’ve been afraid to begin?
✨ What lie has the enemy told you that you’re ready to release?
✨ What step can you take today, no matter how small, to walk in faith?

Let this be the start of something new. Something bold. Something rooted in truth.

You are more powerful than you think.
You are guided by a God who knows the end from the beginning.
And you were never meant to do this alone.

Your Girl,

Charley VegyDise
